The Church of the Sublime is a newly formed non-profit organization currently incorporating in the State of New Jersey and applying for 501(c)3 status with the IRS. It is formed as a meta-religion of Art and Nature – with a philosophy rooted in Neo/Transcendentalism, among other spiritualities. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for all creatures. Our activism focuses on creative arts and culture, environmental stewardship, food/health and local economies. We intend to provide a forum for people to share information and support each other in their efforts of art, sustainability and social equity – as well as to strengthen and protect our common values, particularly from fundamentalism and consumerism run amok.
We will soon have a complete website dedicated to the ‘Church’ and its functions – including our mission statement, contact information, charter, blog posts/’sermons’ and the like. We also will implement a social networking site that will engage the ‘congregation’ and provide forums for people to share information and support each other.
The social networking site will be an organically emerging, or open-source, community focused on geographically-local economies and culture. Within it, there will be areas focusing on art, social and environmental issues and mutual support. It will provide ways for artists, writers, performers, sustainable entrepreneurs, crafters, students, homemakers and others to share information and collaborate on projects, form purchasing co-ops and crafting clubs, participate in ride shares, bartering, organize and announce events and the like. Small businesses and self-employed individuals will be able to share information on sustainable practices and business tips, as well as team up with other organizations for promotional events, etc. The site will offer affordable advertisement for individuals and independently owned businesses as a source of revenue for our organization. A truly activist networking site, there will be opportunity for members to post comments, form groups, organize campaigns, and to publish blogs and videos that are in line with our mission.
In an immediate answer to President Obama’s call to service, we intend to file with the state and federal governments by May 31st, 2009.
Take a look around to find out more about what we’re about. We’re taking suggestions and any professional expertise to help us with this project. Please contact us if you are so inclined!
Winking,
Revs Heather and Hassen Saker
